Laser scanning is a fairly new technology where objects are fully scanned with expensive laser technology and a full 3d model is made from the resulting scan. This all sounds good in practice but the equipment is extremely expensive and the process is time consuming. Forensic photo have the equipment to produce laser scanned model but we prefer the old fashioned techniques. We take accurate measurements with surveying equipment and convert these into detailed scaled plans and accurate 3d reconstructions and simulations.
So whilst the laser scanner has its benefits, the equipment is extremely expensive but still carries discrepancies and a long manual process at the end. ForensicPhoto used high end surveying equipment, experience and architectural techniques to make sure our scaled drawing are extremely accurate. These backed up with our crime scene photography and 3D reconstructions make the complete graphical locus reports
